First Blog

Filip having an inkling

Here is my first entry of my blog where I want to share some of my choreographic thoughts, present some of my conversations with other artists and collaborators and keep you informed of the things that I am up to or that are presented to me. I also want to use it as a platform for people to have a better understanding of what it is that I do or what it is like to be a choreographer. Two weeks ago I was interviewed in Antwerp by someone who works at ccBe. His first question took me by surprise a little bit. He asked: “‘so, Filip what do you actually do?’ Its funny but as I have been working as a choreographer for about 13 years now, I just do what I do and don’t always question what lays at the basis of why I am a choreographer. So I answered without thinking and said: “What do I do? Well, I am a choreographer which means that I constantly am thinking about movement, I always have movement in my head and body and I find it very difficult not to be concerned with movement, how to organise it, how to communicate it and how to wrap it up in a package that makes it interesting for other people to look or take part into. The great thing is that whenever I have an idea or an inkling of a beginning of an idea, then more or less a year later this idea will have developed into a production that is touring. So, I get to present my dreams on stage and I think that’s pretty cool.”

So, from now on I hope to give you a little insight into my choreographic kitchen. My ideas often creep up when I am on the road travelling and as for the coming six weeks I will be travelling almost constantly I hope to share many of my inklings with you.

Cheers F
