Relative Danger

(Rel-a-tive: adjective - considered in relation or in proportion to something else. noun - a person connected by blood or marriage)

(Danger: noun – the possibility of suffering harm or injury, the possibility of something unwelcome or unpleasant)

Neurotic, passive, indecisive, caring and a bundle of fire – who are these five people? What binds them together, what experiences have they shared and what eccentricities lie behind the picture of harmony and composure presented to the public.

Relative Danger starts from a group photograph. A moment in time in the lives of five men. As a group their individuality is hidden, but they are all unique. If you look closer you can ask, who are these people, where are they from, where are they going? What are their hidden secrets and commonalities?

Relative Danger group shot

A group portrait often hides more than it reveals. The smiles, the focus, the hand holding disguises the individuality of each, the personal characteristics that make us who we are. It’s a brief moment in time that captures a façade, hiding the details until the secrets are revealed.

Relative Danger is a physical exploration of individuality. Dynamic movement and explosive partner-work reveals the personality of the characters and their interactions with one another. Retina invites the audience to observe this absurd world.

Jump on the rollercoaster of Relative Danger, physically capturing the dangers and encounters of these five individuals.

Performance options

Alongside the 30-minute performance work Retina lead a lecture demonstration, an opportunity for the audience to create a mini dance performance on the company, witnessing a choreographic process. Throw ideas at the dancers to create a one-off performance, and enjoy individual, bizarre and memorable moments from these talented dancers.

Or there is the option for Relative Danger to be accompanied by a 30 minute version of Antipode, Retina’s 2009 production.
