Brian Hartley - Visual Artist
Brian is a Glasgow based artist whose work embraces a fusion of visual art, dance and design. After studying at Glasgow School of Art he worked as artist in residence from 1995-97 with Glasgow�s New Moves dance festival, creating drawings as a response to performances. He has since worked in a visual arts capacity with dance companies and exhibited nationally and internationally. His visual art work has been applied in graphic design and illustration, and he is increasingly in demand as a theatre designer working for design and theatre companies, such as Company Chordelia, yDance, The Working Party, Borderline Theatre, Tabula Rasa Dance Company, The Arches Theatre Company, Scotland�s International Children�s Theatre Festival,
The Ensemble Group Dance Company, Random Dance Company, Fablevision and Toonspeak Young People�s Theatre. His visual work with dance led him to train in dance, physical theatre and butoh and has resulted in creating work as a performer, performing with transfigured from 1998-2002. In 2002 he established stillmotion as a company identity to present his own multi-disciplinary work, working as a solo performer and in collaboration with other artists, creating shear in 2002.
He is currently touring a full length production The Winter Room with Tabula Rasa Dance Company working as both designer and performer.
