Steven Martin

Steven began training in Scotland in 2003 at the Scottish School of Contemporary Dance. During his training he worked with London-based SmallPetitKlein Dance Company. He graduated in June 2007 and then began an apprenticeship with Scottish Dance Theatre through the London Contemporary Dance School. He finished his apprenticeship but stayed as a dancer with the company until September 2008. Steven joined Retina in 2009 for the production of Antipode.

Brian Tjon Tjauw Liem

Brian got a B.Sc in Cognitive Artificial Intelligence before studying modern dance at the Rotterdam Dance Academy. Besides repertoire pieces by choreographers such as Amy Raymond and Gabrielle Staiger he did two movement research projects with Dylan Newcomb, two productions with company Vloeistof and was invited in 2008 to perform, choreograph, teach and study in Hirado (Japan) for one month followed by a tour with the BodySoulXperience Caravan in Tokyo and Kyoto. In 2009 he won the audience prize at the 10th International Solo Dance Festival in Budapest. Brian joined Retina in 2009 for the production of Antipode.

Matthew Slater

Matthew Slater

Matt first started dancing at the age of 17 as part of his performing arts A-level, he then went on to study a BPA(hons) in contemporary dance at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Leeds. During his training Matt performed in new works created by David Massingham, Ellen Van Schuylenburch and Andile Sotiya, and in 2005 toured nationally as part of Verve Dance Company in Four Point Five choreographed by ex-Rambert dancer Glen Wilkinson. In 2005 Matt completed a post graduate diploma at London Contemporary Dance School touring nationally and internationally to France, Sweden, Denmark and Portugal as part of Edge Dance Company in work created by Siobhan Davies, Trisha Brown and Sue MacLennan. Since completing his training Matt has worked with Bedlam Dance Company on several projects including installations at the Arts Depot and Sadlers Wells and research and development for their next touring project.

Robert Guy

Robert Guy

Robert trained with Devon Youth Dance Theatre followed by London Contemporary Dance School from 2003 to 2006. In 2005 he was awarded The Robert Cohan Prize for outstanding potential. After graduating he joined Transitions Dance Company, followed by working for Wired Aerial Theatre Company & Greenbean Dance Company. He participated in the research and development process of Martin Creed’s Work No.850 exhibited at Tate Britain. He is also a member of the Essential Alston Education Team, where he delivers repertoire workshops on behalf of the Richard Alston Dance Company. Robert also collaborates with Daniela B Larsen on his own work and most recently he worked for Destino at Sadlers Wells as assistant choreographer. Robert joined Retina in 2009 for the production of Antipode.
