Oxford Dance Workshop

Rejuvenate your choreographic practice and feed your movement vocabulary

This workshop is being devised specially for Oxford Dance Forum so will be a unique opportunity to explore contact work from improvisation into choreography.

Retina is renowned for its partner and group contact work, which ranges from quirky to visceral to emotive. Retina's company dancers will share contact movement vocabulary and techniques for lifting and moving together as well as allowing time to explore your own contact moments.

Working from both Belgium and the UK, Retina's Artistic Director Filip Van Huffel has established a particular working methodology that emphasises his investigation of pure movement that affects the viewer theatrically through a physically vibrant movement quality.

Who is it for?
This workshop is suitable for professional dancers, graduates and advanced students of dance and physical theatre. It is open to artists from anywhere, not just those based in Oxford.

Venue: Theatre, Old Fire Station, 40 George Street, Oxford, OX1 2AQ
Date and time: Friday 29 November 11am - 4.45pm
Cost: £30 to Oxford Dance Forum by cheque or bank transfer

To book please email kylaodf@gmail.com or call on 07958 002207

A New Friendship

We're excited to announce the launch of our Friends of Retina Dance scheme, where you can play a huge part in ensuring Retina’s style of exciting contemporary dance continues to thrive in the region and across the UK.

“[Retina’s workshop] gave me the opportunity to work alongside, with and watch professional dancers as well as give me a taster of what it would be like to be in a professional dance company, which is one of my ambitions.”

In return for becoming our Friend we offer you the following:

  • Advance notice of productions on tour
  • Advance notice of productions being developed
  • A quarterly newsletter
  • The chance to meet and chat with Retina's dancers after a performance

Becoming a Friend of Retina Youth Dance Company means we'll also let you know about any opportunities to see the group perform locally, either in rehearsal, or at curtain raisers.

“Retina provides a lot of dance opportunities… and importantly to me not just for kids but for adults too. Their classes allow me as a dance graduate to continue to train and develop my skills on a regular basis. The amount of participation work the company does is great and one of a kind; I have never performed on stage alongside a professional company like Retina anywhere else and have not often seen it.”

Will you become our friend?
